AndersonSargent Win EVHA Gold Award for Zero-Energy Home Sargent Receives Coveted Builder of the Year Award
(Achieved highest LEED rated building in America)Mission Viejo, CA (January 23, 2006)-AndersonSargent Custom Builder of Waxahachie, Texas won the 2006 gold EnergyValue Housing Gold Award (EVHA) in the custom home, hot climate category for its Zero-Energy Home. James Hardie siding is featured on the home. In its 11th year, the EVHA is the nation's preeminent energy efficiency award honoring builders who voluntarily incorporate energy-efficiency into all aspects of new home construction. Jim Sargent also received the coveted 2006 Builder of the Year Award.
"The quality and quantity of award-winning builders this year is outstanding," said Michael Luzier, president of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). "Clearly, the efficacy of the EVHA program and its partners to expand the focus on environmental consciousness and energy-efficiency among builders is growing, and these innovative professionals are leading the way."
The Zero-Energy Home was first featured in the Dallas Parade of Homes in September 2004. It is an excellent example of what can happen when a designer and builder team up to focus on energy efficiency. Barley+Pfeiffer Architects and Jim Sargent produced the award-winning home that demonstrates you can live in a more environmentally responsible manner while also enjoying greater comfort than most new homes offer today.
A computer-modeling program estimated utility costs for the four-bedroom, 3,800-square-foot home equivalent to homes one-third the size, averaging less than $70 per month in gas and electricity. Once solar photovoltaic panels are factored in, the net cost to operate the home throughout the course of the year should be zero.
Barley+Pfeiffer and Sargent committed to building homes with high energy-efficiency in the mid-1980s, and for more than 20 years, they have designed and constructed homes to meet those high standards.
In addition to other environmentally responsible building materials, the Pfeiffer/Sargent team frequently uses James Hardie siding products on their energy-efficient homes. Pfeiffer says he likes Hardie products because they are made from easily renewable resources, do not rot or deteriorate, hold paint well, and when installed and painted in accordance with the manufacturers instructions the product manages water better than other masonry products".
He also says that James Hardie siding allows for authentic exterior detailing making for durable "century" homes.
"It's little known that HardiePlank siding products are actually more durable than most traditional masonry products in a hot humid climate like ours," Pfeiffer said.
Jim Sargent, the NAHB-appointed energy efficient construction instructor and master builder also likes James Hardie siding products.
"There are a lot of good building products and a lot of beautiful building products out there," Sargent said. "Rarely is there a product that combines beauty and durability. James Hardie siding is one of those rare products."
