James Hardie Zero Energy Home
James Hardie® siding products is proud to present North Texas' first Zero Energy Home which is set to debut at the 13th annual Dallas Parade of Homes® being held at Lone Star Ranch September 4 - September 26, 2004 in Frisco. The zero-energy residence will generate as much energy as it uses. Through the combination of state-of-the-art, energy-efficient construction and appliances and renewable energy systems available on the commercial market, the Zero Energy Home will achieve "net zero-energy".
The Zero Energy Home features durable and low maintenance James Hardie siding that showcases the beauty and charm of traditional lap and shingle-style siding without the maintenance hassles of wood. James Hardie siding was attractive to the Zero Energy Home builders as it resists damage from rain, hail and flying debris and resists rotting and cracking. Another energy efficient quality of James Hardie siding is that it is dimensionally stable, paint won't chip and peel, enabling it to last three to four times longer than wood-based products.
"We're proud to be part of this project and to have the opportunity to educate consumers about energy-efficiency, sustainability and low-maintenance building practices," says Brian Romike, James Hardie regional sales manager. The Zero Energy Home is a two-story, luxury house that will be the featured home at the Dallas Parade of Homes®. It is 3,800 square feet with all the amenities of today's modern homes, including a screened porch and 2.5-car garage. The market value is approximately $600,000. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in April at the Zero Energy Home site in Frisco and is scheduled for completion in August.
The Zero Energy Home is a demonstration project for the Department of Energy's Building America Program which encourages homeowners and builders to live and build in a more fiscally and environmentally sensible manner. "The concept is simple" said Jim Sargent, ZEH Builder and Principal at AndersonSargent Custom Builders LP. "By using clean renewable energy sources that reduce pollution and help sustain a healthy environment, the Zero Energy Home is the future for the American home."
